This year I have 18 first-graders. The students in my classroom live in an urban community and come from a variety of backgrounds. I have students with a wide range of learning styles and needs. My goal each year is to create a warm and inviting classroom where children feel safe and look forward to learning every day. First graders love to move, play games, and use technology. I try to provide activities that incorporate movement as much as possible in order to keep them engaged.
All of my students come to school every day excited and ready to learn, and I passionately want to continue to strive to provide the best learning environment for all of them.
Even though this year will be different, I am looking forward to teaching a great group of first graders.
My Project
First grade is such an important year to learn critical math concepts. Math curriculum should teach students the fundamentals in a way that is not just effective, but also fun. In addition to giving students a solid foundation, first grade math fluency also provides students with the tools and confidence they need to learn more advanced concepts down the road.
I would like to bring learning to life by having my first graders use tactile number lines and a magnetic 100s chart to help strengthen important math concepts.
I strive to make all learning fun by engaging and motivating students and I know these new math materials will help make learning more fun for my first graders.
