First graders are eager, excited, and enthusiastic! They are thoughtful, caring, curious, and intelligent kids who love to learn and have fun doing it! This year we will be learning about different cultures, talking about current events around the world, thinking about what we can do to make a difference and taking action to make the world a better place.
Teaching is an important job to do, and we thank generous people like you who realize that investing in kids is the best investment you can make for our future!
My Project
Math should be hands-on and interactive! We learn when we are actively involved in the process, and this project supports that idea! The younger our students are, the even greater urgency to build the conceptual understandings of mathematics to serve as strong foundations for the future. We know that our little learners do best when learning activities are hands-on, engaging, and stimulating. This project does just that!
From tools, such as an enlarged interactive number line, to fun and collaborative math activities, such as place value centers and addition Bingo, students are engaged in interesting and rigorous learning opportunities in which they can grow their mathematical understandings!
What I love about this project is it gives students a chance to get away from independent practice with a worksheet, and instead practice a wide variety of skills with one another. As a teacher, I want to provide my students with opportunities to work together and for them to engage in conversations around math! These activities, such as the math learning center kit, allow students to do just that!
This project also provides me with tools to support and inform my instruction, such as individual number bond models and ten-frame whiteboards, which I can use to easily check for understanding among my students. This project is just what my kids need to make math fun and engaging!
