My students need the complete set of Real-World Math problem solving kits, problem solving journals, problem solving game library, activity cards, and additional markers.
"When are we ever going to need Math?" is a question that has plagued teachers and students for years. With this project, students will participate in real-world problem solving opportunities that will strengthen their knowledge of math, as well as preparing them for the future.
My class is one of four, fourth grade classrooms in a public school system in Tennessee.
Our school is comprised of grades K-4 and is a Title I school, which means the majority of our students receive free or reduced lunch. Many of our students have not traveled outside of the state and have limited experiences.
My Project
The resources provided from this project will increase student achievement in Math, while improving problem solving abilities in real-world situations. The Real-World Math Problem Solving Kit is a complete set of activities made up of everyday situations where students would encounter the need to use math (examples- shopping, sports, travel). The Word Problems Games library will be used in centers and/or intervention time in Math. The Problem Solving Journals will be used by students as daily practice with problem solving throughout the year. Finally, the Common Core Activity Cards will also be used as a center for students to improve math problem solving skills. As a whole, students will become better problem solvers and increase their confidence in their math skills.
This project will inspire confidence in my students in their mathematics abilities, as well as prepare them for the future.
The resources from this project focus on real-world math and problem solving that they will face in everyday situations.
