Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a teacher in an amazing low-income bilingual school. My students are faced with several challenges. I want to help my students in as many ways as possible and empower them to be productive citizens.
I have a great mix of scholars including special education students, English language learners who love exploring, playing to learning, and creating.
These students like to discover and enthusiastically share their ideas with their peers.
Students at our school are inquisitive and compassionate. They collaborate across levels with buddy classes to promote empathy, patience, and perseverance. 86% of our students come from socioeconomically disadvantaged homes. Many of our students do not have access to financial literacy activities.
My Project
We are currently in a unit practicing time to the hour and half hour and it is tricky for them. I know they need hands on practice and these would be so much help for them. We would use these math boards daily as well to place or magnetic coins and place value blocks. We could also practice writing our numbers and use these in reading and writing. Each child needs to practice these skills and this will them the hands on experience to be successful in learning our hard first grade standards. I really appreciate any contribution you could make!
