Mrs. Ramsay from Winterville NC is requesting classroom basics through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need access to appropriate reading materials to suit their needs. I have requested materials to help me create these adapted materials. These resources include a binding machine, lamination sheets, and storage bins.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students come from very economically diverse backgrounds with 80% receiving free or reduced price lunch. They have all been identified as falling on the Autism spectrum. My students represent the whole spectrum from academically gifted to being completely non-verbal with intense sensory and academic needs. In addition to my student I have regular education students who choose to become peer helpers and work in my room. My students struggle with social skills and can exhibit maladaptive behaviors.
My students never let their disabilities hold them back in anyway.
They are an inspiration to all who meet them. My students range in age from ten to fifteen. They receive all of their instruction in my classroom. Unfortunately, the nature of their disabilities prevent them from being mainstreamed into the general curriculum classes. I absolutely love what I do, my students, and my school. I would love to provide them with the resources they need!
I am requesting a variety of resources to enable me to create adapted literature for my students. It is extremely difficult to find age appropriate reading material that my students can access. All of my students fall on the Autism spectrum and function from below a kindergarten reading level up to a fifth grade reading level.
I would love to create adapted reading materials so that all of the students in my class have access to age appropriate literature.
The binding machine and laminator sheets will give me the ability to take one story and create adapted versions to meet the needs and current reading levels of my students. This will give all of my students the ability to participate in whole class discussions and activities based on the adapted stories.
