Help me give my students a light table, a CD player and storytelling kits that will enable literacy instruction to become interactive and rich in content.
Imagine coming to school with little to no expressive language and having the extreme desire to learn all kinds of new things. My students are all students with disabilities and they all struggle in multiple areas of learning due to developmental delays. Interactive hands-on materials which include the infusion of technology into their literacy instruction will enable them to expand their expressive language and literacy skills through a multi-sensory, hands-on approach to learning in a preschool environment that encourages students to develop across domains.
As one can imagine, my students are inquisitive and highly motivated to connect with the world around them, learn new things and be able to expressively communicate with those people who are in their environment.
The materials that I am seeking will empower my students to participate in rich academic instruction in an environment, which enables them to learn through their senses.
My Project
Through the use of the Big book sets from Lakeshore learning, which will be accompanied by musical CDs played on the CD player, the student will incorporate movements from the stories to bring the characters to life. Additionally, the light table will help the students focus on the literacy manipulatives as they retell and recreate the story with the manipulation of literature characters on the light table. This interactive literacy-based instruction will keep the students engaged and foster the development of both literacy and receptive and expressive language skills.
Students with global developmental delays, which impact their cognitive development and receptive and expressive language skills, learn best through having their sensory systems engaged throughout their learning.
