My students need a classroom printer and projector to enhance classroom learning experiences and make them more accessible to all.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students are a dynamic and precocious group of twenty-two, four and five year old children. I teach in a large, urban school district with a rich history and extremely diverse student/staff population. We are mostly African-American, Vietnamese, Cape Verdean, and Latino. Our students, families, and staff represent a wide range of cultures, languages, and ethnicities from across the globe. Though my students often come from families facing tremendous adversity and trauma, they are resilient, and eagerly come to school ready to learn and explore what the day has to offer. We have built a community of learners and they are destined to reach their greatest potential.
A classroom projector and wireless printer will revolutionize teaching and learning in the classroom.
There are a myriad of ways we could use a projector and wireless printer in the early childhood classroom.
First, a projector would allow access to online educational sites that promote movement, literacy (such as online books, songs that promote phonemic awareness and phonics, etc.), and mathematical thinking (such as presenting mathematical puzzles that encourage children to share their thinking). These whole group learning experiences help to build community through shared experiences. A projector is also useful in sharing and documenting student work. It can even become a means through which student learning can be shared with students, families, and community members through exciting features, such as slideshows.
A wireless printer will allow me to print and copy educational resources, student work, and classroom communication for families. A printer is one of several tools that will assist in documenting student work and maintaining communication with families (i.e. newsletters, photos, bulletin displays, homework, etc.) . A printer is a mainstay for a classroom teacher. These are just some of the many ways a projector and printer will be useful.
