I have amazing students with autism who work very hard every day. I love how enthusiastic my students are to learn and how determined they are to succeed, even when they face challenges. They are all special in their own unique ways and I do my best to highlight their strengths in our everyday routine.
Being located in the North Las Vegas area, socioeconomic levels and parent involvement can greatly vary, so the dedication to learning that my students express is truly inspiring!
The reason I teach is to encourage and foster independence in these unique learners!
My Project
I recently attended a professional development by Kevin Spencer, a former magician who now works with special populations like children with autism. He has created Hocus Focus, which is a child-centered, arts-based program that combines education with imagination to help students develop and improve their skills in a variety of important areas. At his PD, I learned some very amazing tricks to teach my own students in the classroom, for example, the bendy pencils with becoming magic pencils that make my students more motivated to work!
The paper clips, rubber bands, and money magic kit will be used on Mondays to empower my students to perform their own magic tricks.
Not only will they be performing magic these materials will be incorporated into their academics! Give the gift of magic for these very unique learners!
