Help me give my students hands on, engaging and fun learning experiences. Students learn on different levels and at different rates. These items will help me to differentiate activities to accommodate the different learning styles.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My kindergarten students are very creative and curious. My students love hands on materials. My classroom is inclusive. There are students in my classroom that are special needs students. These students require many special educational services
In spite of the many challenges they face, they still come to school with a smile on their face and are eager to learn.
My students are growing up in poverty and violence. Many of these students deal with many hardships and are preforming below grade level.
Our school is a neighborhood STEAM academy. Many of my students live across the street and walk to school. The STEAM Academy (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) has a strong literacy focus at every grade. The school serves as a community hub and has an integrated focus on academics, health and family services, youth programs and community engagement. The school is a centerpiece of the community.
My Project
My students are unique and have different learning styles. I would like the opportunity to foster their learning. My students are very active and need items that will engage them and hold their attention.
Students love having new, fun, and exciting ways to learn.
The manipulatives will be great teaching tools for my visual and kinetic learners. Many of my students struggle with learning sight words. Sight words are very critical in children learning to read. Opposed to the skill and drill of using flash cards, the Learning Sight-Word Activity Chest will create a different approach to learning sight words. These materials will help to create a literacy rich environment for my students. The materials will help students with alphabetic knowledge, phonics, and blending. These are all skills that will help students read at grade level.
Since we are a STEAM(science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) school, I'm also requesting items for my students to build and create. These items will help to foster their creativity. I have a student in my class who loves "dirt devil" vacuum cleaners. He is able to tell you everything about this vacuum cleaner. He often goes to the classroom next door to me to get the Vehicle Engineering kit. With this kit, he has built his own vacuum cleaner and pretends to vacuum the classroom. This is definitely an item I would love to have for this one special student.
