I work in a Title I school where over 91% of our students get free or reduced-price lunch, and many families work very hard every day to support their family. For some of my students, English is their second language, and many are significantly below level in reading, needing extra support to help them make the necessary gains to increase their reading comprehension.
My students come from very low-income families, where buying even the many necessities can be difficult.
This makes it difficult for many of the families to purchase books and other reading resources for their children to use at home. I want to provide my students with experiences they never dreamed of. I want to make sure they all have good books in their hands to read! I want to have my students leave my classroom wanting to read and not thinking of reading as something they have to do.
Many of my 5th grade students are struggling readers and are still in need of phonics instruction every day. I want to keep my students engaged and make learning fun and having a variety of phonics games in the classroom can help me do just that! Games like Educational Insights Sentence Building Dominoes, Meet the Phonics - Digraphs - Flashcards and MengTing Alphabet Letter Word Spelling Game Spell Words Board Game for Kids will help keep my students engaged and having fun while learning! Phonics instruction is so important even for older students and games help to make learning fun and engaging!!
