Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are fun, serious, and interesting. It is not fun every minute of every day but I think we do a pretty good job of having fun when we can. But we are serious too, my students know we have high expectations for them and we can’t waste any time. My students always seem to be engaged/interested in what we are doing as I get them to involve in every aspect of our lesson. Our mission and goals apply to 100% of our students, 100% of the time. Our schools prepare students from underserved communities for success in college and citizenship.
85 percent of IDEA students come from low-income families, many from colonies.
Our schools serve students in grades Pre-K to 12. IDEA Public Schools prepares students from underserved communities for success in college and citizenship, and is committed to developing students with the academic, social, and leadership characteristics needed to apply, matriculate, and succeed in a four-year college or university. IDEA was awarded the prestigious 2016 Broad Prize for Public Charter Schools for demonstrating best overall performance, especially serving primarily low-income students.
My Project
Little by little our 5th grade Science class is becoming the learning environment that our scholars need for their success. My classroom is in need of tools for the scholars to be successful in their learning.
My classroom is in need of cushions.
Flexibility is one choice given to the scholar. Since day one I ensure my scholars know that they have a choice in their learning abilities. They may sit anywhere they like as long as they are safe in the classroom. Many scholars choose to sit on the floor when taking notes or watching an educational video. However, to comfortably sit on the floor, we are in need of cushions.
Another tool I have integrated into the scholar's learning is technology. Scholars have the opportunity to review lessons and videos during stations. At this moment we do not headphones so when it comes to viewing educated videos other scholars who are in different stations cannot concentrate.
Last but not least, a charging station is needed to ensure technology is ready to be used for the learning of my scholars. My scholars will greatly appreciate the learning environment that is being built for their success.
