Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The typical day in my classroom is....busy! We are on the go, moving and grooving through morning meeting, phonics, reading groups, snack/recess then onto math, all before 11 a.m.! We are Mrs. D's Busy Bees!
My 27 students are eager to read and learn about anything and everything.
They are curious and love to read and write about what they are learning about, especially science!
Not only do we need books, we need some resources that will help us become better readers! We have many students from different places in the world and this creates an interesting and diverse group of students. We have many English language learners, so help with phonics and basic literacy skills are very important.
Over 98% of the students in my school are considered to be living in poverty. Due to these adversities, they lack the resources to develop their reading skills at home. Each of these children, however, has a genuine desire to learn. Even with these challenges, my kids show up ready to learn, and wanting to succeed! (They determine their own success, with a little help along the way).
My Project
My students love to read and write about what they are learning about, especially any of the S.T.E.M. subjects. (We are a STEM elementary school).
My students do many observational drawings for science as well as lots of writing. To accompany their work, they need to add colorful illustrations! The markers and colored pencils will come in handy.
They also simply require basic phonics and reading comprehension skills. Answering questions, with the Hot Dots or building words with phonics cubes will help a lot.
Each teacher strives to make the classroom a safe and happy place.
We want to foster learning in all students and having new materials to use and learn from will create this happy environment of learning.
We have so many different types of learners in my class, and these few items will make them more engaged, more confident in their ability, and very happy! Thank you!
