I am a first-year, third grade teacher at an elementary school teaching science, social studies, and math with very limited resources. In order for my students to really grasp abstract concepts, they need to see these concepts at work in the world around them, especially my special needs children. My proposal is to purchase a projector to use with my students to bring the real world into my classroom. Using video and allowing my students to interact with media and internet resources would enhance their understanding and bring meaning into an otherwise "fuzzy" world of facts that don't really mean much to them. I plan to reach out to all students, especially the visual learners, through song, video, pictures, powerpoint presentations and interactive websites in each of the three subjects I teach.
