My students want to be engaged. They come, a lot of them, from low-income families and they don't often have a lot of the things we take for granted. They don't always have the support at home for their academics and they struggle to be on grade level.
In order to get my students engaged and learning, I need to create opportunities for them to get excited about new, innovative projects.
One way to get them engaged is through Makerspace activities!
My Project
Students need to use their hands to fully get engaged in their learning. These various Makerspace items will allow students to get creative, use their hands, and learn in ways they might not usually learn. These items will be able to teach collaboration, innovation, and many other soft skills that students will enjoy using.
With access to a Makerspace environment, students can enjoy themselves while they are learning about science and math, specifically.
They will use the Knex to learn about energy, the snap and smart circuits to learn about power transfer in science, and the 3D pens will allow them to create things and build models that will help with their enjoyment of education. Students will enjoy coming to the library to build, create, and explore - and that engagement and quest for knowledge will carry over into the classroom.
