Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is located in the Acres Homes neighborhood in Northwest Houston. It's an older school, but it has an amazing group of administrators, teachers, and staff. We work well and support each other to ensure the success of each and every student in our school district.
My students are amazing children!
They work hard, are persistent, and strive to do their best every day in music class. They truly cherish the time we spend together because we only see each other twice a week.
My Project
My students are eager for more time on the instruments in class, and I know they would enjoy having a variety of ways to learn and perform music. The Diatonic Wide Bar Alto Glockenspiels are incredibly vital because they have a wider area where a student can strike, which would greatly increase their chances at success when playing.
Creating music is the best way to engage both sides of the brain, and with these new instruments, we're making our kids smarter, more creative, and braver, because creating music isn't always easy.
Every one of my classes would benefit from new instruments. From my fifth graders who will be making the decision in the next few months about their electives for middle school all the way down to my kindergartners. If they can get their hands on egg shakers, they'll get more opportunities to practice steady beat in different ways, and that is the foundation of elementary music. If they can learn steady beat in kindergarten, they are golden for the rest of their lives!
