Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

About My Students

In a low SES school, my students struggle with life. Caring about school is not a priority; surviving is. Two of my students, Jesus & Ernesto, want to give them the desire for learning technology, and that a better future is possible.

In my school, 99.9% of the students are Hispanic, and 99.1% are economically disadvantaged.

These students come from various backgrounds. With low scores in math and science, Jesus & Ernesto want to ensure that my students have a chance in life. Many of these students do not believe in themselves. Jesus & Ernesto want to give them the opportunity to explore technology. Also, I'm an ATPE member.

Field trips for many students are something that they hear about and not experience. However, technology is the great equalizer.

"From Machu Picchu to Antarctica to the International Space Station," students will be able to take "immersive, virtual journeys." -Google

Google recently released the beta of the Expeditions App. It will be an amazing virtual reality exploration of places never before seen. Each Android device and virtual reality goggles are paired for an immersive experience of the field trip. While the tablet helps me guide the tour.

Thanks to your help, Jesus, Ernesto, and the rest of my students will be able to visit the moon without ever leaving the classroom.

In Their Own Words

We want the best for the students and that includes being introduced to new technology. A Virtual Reality Headset would be a way for students here to experience new places we can’t go to ourselves. In other words, we need students to have better and more high-quality gadgets and better opportunities not many have. Also, it would be an amazing experience that we as a student body would appreciate what some schools do not often provide enough or may not have access to funds. Therefore, since not everyone has access to technology like a Virtual Reality Headset we want to change this so that those who come after us have better opportunities so that they can see more of the world. Since not many students are able to travel to see the rest of the world with a Virtual Reality Headset they can explore it without leaving at no expense.

For example, I (Jesus) would use these devices for my anatomy class where I am studying the human body, there are some videos which involve surgery from the point of view of a surgeon. With a Virtual Reality Headset it will give me a better chance at learning because it will allow me to have a more realistic experience of what the body is like and what procedures are taken to help us. By using Google Expeditions, we can travel to a heart. Then, I can show my classmates the inside and how it works. It’ll catch the attention of my classmates and make them want to learn and see what the Virtual Reality Headset and Google expeditions has to offer, as we travel to distant places.

We want to get the money to purchase the Virtual Reality headset so we can come together. So that it allows us as students have an awesome time while learning. So that not only I but all our fellow students know that we have up to date technology at our disposal. I feel this will help us in the future with careers involving the technology, and even allow us to explore areas we had no idea about. So, if we do get the money to purchase these items it will be better for the students here and myself included.
