Making Great Writers One Journal At A Time!

My students need supplies, such as composition notebooks, pencil grips, and erasers, to support their daily writing. They will be able to express themselves with pictures and words The way the journals are laid out, they will be able to work on their handwriting.

My Students

My class of all boys is always an adventure! You never know what they will ask or say at any given time. These boys are in my K-3 self-contained classroom. These students are identified with having social and emotional disabilities. In my class, we work heavily on academics and social skills. Most of these students also have academic challenges. These challenges stem from many different reasons, whether it is a learning disability or the fact that they have missed so much school because of behavior.

Our school is in a community that is not afraid of hard work.

The area we are in became popular because it was an area that people could find a job and make a home for themselves. It was greatly affected by the railroad when it first came through. It is still a working class area with many of our families finding themselves living paycheck to paycheck.

My goal for my students is always to get them back into their original classrooms but my real passion is to give them the tools to be successful in and out of the classroom.

My Project

Having writing journals that are age appropriate for my students will make a huge difference in there wiliness to want to write. The journals have a spot for them to write a story and then an area for a creative picture.

This will benefit them because even if the writing is difficult for them they can express themselves with a picture.

The pencil grips will also assist them in the correct way to hold a writing instrument. Many of the students that come to my class have missed out on the basic skills of how to use a pencil or crayon the correct way.
