My Students
Despite coming from what would be considered high risk low income household's, they are excited about learning. Our students begin everyday reciting our school pledge to be the best student they can be. They practice following school rules, are excited about contributions they make to their learning environment, and have decided to make good choices. Although I am their teacher, I love coming to work everyday. The shine in their eyes to learn new things and the pride they display when they've mastered a new skill is priceless. My students remind me everyday of my "why" for becoming an educator.
My Project
My students come from a high risk, low income area where healthy snacks are not always available to them. They only get two meals at school so by the end of the day they are usually hungry. When they get home it would be life changing for them to have a healthy snack to enjoy.
The students we serve often move house to house without a permanent residence.
Their families often do not have access to a refrigerator to store food or a stove to cook healthy meals. Studies have shown that eating healthy cost more than the quick easy unhealthy snacks. Food options in the neighborhood are not of the best variety so many times families have no choice but to buy what is offered in the area. With help from generous donors like you, our students will have the availability healthy snack options.
