Making Formative Assessments Fun and Interactive In Science Class
Help me give my students Neon Dry Erase Markers for use on the lab tables for quick, fun, and easy formative assessments and Clorox wipes to help ensure the tables remain residue free after using them.
With budget cuts becoming more and more of a reality in my state, my students are facing less and less in our classrooms. Please help me obtain a set of neon dry erase markers to use with quick and fun formative assessments in my classroom.
My students are 7th graders in North Carolina.
We have a completely diverse population and range from extremely high ability levels to extremely low ability levels. A lot of my students come from single-parent families, and therefore they might not always get the support that they need at home. My students come in every day, eager for fun activities to help them remain engaged in the learning process.
My Project
I have a fabulous group of kiddos this year. They come in daily and work their hearts out in class. I would like to include some more fun and interactive formative assessments into class to keep them engaged in the learning process.
Having students interact with dry erase markers on the tables is a fun way for students to creatively answer questions, interact with each other, and allow me to assess their knowledge.
It allows me opportunities to formatively assess them without having to physically print out an assessment. Students are overtested and giving them a sheet that they feel is an "assessment" can be intimidating. By allowing students to show what they know in a fun way can enhance their experience in science class by allowing me to assess where they are without giving a traditional assessment. The Clorox wipes will ensure that school property is not damaged. The markers will come off of the lab tables with erasers, but there could still be residue on the tables at the end of the day. Cleaning them well with the wipes will allow me to continue using this method of assessment without potential damage to the school's property.
