My students need the opportunity to have flexible seating to participate in activities. The diverse seating and chair bands will offer multiple options for the students to be comfortable.
Students in my classroom are participating in the Autistic Support Classroom, where we meet the needs of diverse learners, provide ample instruction in foundational academic skills, social skills, and functional-life skills.
My students are members of a community- creating friendships in a positive learning environment.
Through a welcoming and flexible classroom setup, my students are able to grow and succeed in their individual way. Our classroom is designed to promote student success, with individual work spaces and cooperative learning centers where students work with their peers on academic and functional tasks. Here in our classroom, we promote student independence in academics and life-skills, while maintaining a fun, welcoming environment for students to learn!
My Project
The materials I requested are to provide my students with autism with opportunities to have alternative seating within our classroom. The advantage of alternative seating is to provide students with a choice of seating, that best fits their needs, to increase their engagement within lessons, activities, and foster cooperative learning environments. The flexible seating includes a ball seat with back support for proper balance and sensory input; the bean bag chair is an alternative option to sitting in a seat; and the bands provide continual input for students who may fidget in their seat. Such great opportunities for my class!
The donations will benefit my students' focus, attention, and fine and gross motor awareness by providing each student with opportunities to choose a flexible seat within our classroom.
The opportunity to provide my students with flexible seating will allow for a cohesive learning environment, with less behavioral and off-task issues. Students needs will be met through differentiated seating that provides my students with sensory needs with a form of self-regulation, and multiple choices of seating within our classroom.
