Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
When I look at my school population of students, the one thing I notice is how culturally diverse they are. I have students who come from Mexico, Africa, Asia, and Polynesian Islands. I work at a Title I school where 88% of the students qualify to receive free lunch.
Most of my students come from low-income homes where they experience many struggles daily.
But do they show this? No, they show me that the world will not bring them down and that they are excited to learn something new every day when they walk into my room. I love coming to work every day because I get to share my Spanish Language with my students. In return, they are teaching me about their personal culture.
My Project
Classroom supplies are always needed in order to assist with differentiated learning within the classroom. Even the simplest materials can make a world of difference. Our students often come from lower-income households and because of this budgets and supplies are tight.
Being able to offer my students a colorful way to complete projects and activities, will help create long-lasting educational pathways between project start and completion.
My students will use colored paper and ink to create educationally-based projects which help with higher-level learning through simple, yet effective curriculum activities. These supplies will increase overall classroom supplies and help students better succeed in the classroom.
