The face of Physical Education class is changing. Many of you remember when only those who were athletic enjoyed class. With the incorporation of fitness into our class, students will all be able to participate at their own level and set their own personal goals.
My students are at a crucial age: middle school.
Many are trying to find where they fit in. Middle school is a very challenging time for many students. Over 70% of my students qualify for free or reduced lunches. For many of them English is their second language. They do not all have access to the latest technology or understand the importance of eating healthy and staying physically active.
My Project
We will use these pedometers on a daily basis. This will help my students increase their own personal level of participation. Not all students are at the same level, by using pedometers students will be able to set their own goals and understand the importance of staying active throughout the class time. Sometimes students get discouraged because they do not feel they have the best skills but they can still stay active. This will allow for students to set their own personal goals for themselves and I will be able to assess their level of participation based on their pedometer results.
The pedometers will encourage my students to stay active throughout the whole class period.
This will allow us to put focus on staying active versus being inactive. Students will be challenged to find way to stay active throughout the class period even when they are waiting their turn to participate. Hopefully, these strategies will encourage my students to stay active outside of class.
