Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students learn in a New York City middle school. They are primarily African-American and Hispanic, and about 40% of them are Special Education students. Many come from low-income households. They have recently started a new and significant chapter in their lives, as they are in middle school.
I've always thought that middle school years are a vital time period for inner-city children, as this is often when some children start making the wrong choices.
I became a teacher, in part, to set a good example for children who need role models in their lives. My students are special because they accomplish so much despite coming from so little.
My Project
I'm requesting various supplies to improve the educational experience of my students. I asked for a presentation pointer so that I can have my students conduct presentations so as to improve their public speaking skills. I'm also asking for copy paper and ink so that my students can have their own copies of texts that we study during Literacy class. I requested dry erase markers so we can share our thinking with each other during class discussions. I requested file folders so we can keep our work organized. The frames I requested will be used to display student artwork. Last but not least, I requested pens, chart paper, sentence strips, and other classroom items that will improve our educational experience.
