My students need the Reading Pen2 and headphones to have full access to the curriculum to graduate high school, and increase their chances of attending a college and reaching their dreams.
I work as an inclusion/504 teacher in a High School setting. The school is a low Income school, with many of the Students from Indian decent. It is also pulling from a commercial fishing community, where generations have survived from shrimping, fishing, and crabbing. Many still will be the first in their family to graduate high school. Through the Native American ministries' here, funds are now available for these students to attend college. Many of the students have the accommodation of materials read aloud to help with comprehension. The inclusion/special education teachers cover Math and English classes, but cannot be in the History, Science, or elective classes the students need. These subject areas can lower GPA's that may prevent the students from getting the grants and acceptance into college.
The use of Reading pens would help these students succeed and become productive citizens.
The students can use high fidelity ear plugs and scan text. The pen will read the text back to them to help with comprehension. This will give the students an opportunity to make their dreams come true.
My Project
The use of the pens will give the students full access to the curriculum and make them more independent. The more they see the word the more proficient reader they become. They will have a chance to become the best person they can be. The ReadingPens2 will scan text and read it back to the student. The pen will also help spell words. This will allow the student to work independently and not have to wait to have material read aloud in a separate setting.
The ability to improve reading skills and work independently will help the student obtain their high school diploma.
They will have a better chance at becoming success.
