Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Apart from having disabilities, my students with special needs are impacted by poverty. They live in a high poverty area of Los Angeles. Their parents are immigrants with low or no income and with communication issues since they do not speak English. My students are severely affected by the coronavirus pandemic. Learning English has slowed down for them since they are unable to get into regular conversations in English due to remote learning. In addition, they do not have educational resources to assist them in learning.
My Project
These iPads will strengthen my students' ability to communicate with teachers, parents, siblings, and peers. My students with special needs struggle with Intellectual Disabilities as well as communication issues due to speech needs.
iPads will offer them a means to make their thoughts known and also offer them a way to read from a vast supply of learning materials and resources.
The interactivity offered by technology will stimulate their brains and lessen the impact of their Intellectual Disabilities on their learning and social functioning. English comprehension and verbalization will soar.
