Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember your first school experience?I do! It was a year of laughter, making friends, painting, counting, learning letters, playing in the dramatic play area etc. This was the experience that all of my preschoolers were experiencing until we had to close our schools down and go into distance learning.
As we face uncertain times, I want my students to know they are cared for, considered, and heard.
My students are very curious, hard-working, and energetic.
The majority of our students come from low economic backgrounds. We are a Title 1 school and all of the students receive free breakfast and lunch.
My Project
Distance learning is our new "norm" indefinitely, so I literally had 5 hours to start building take-home kits with books, yummy snacks, flash cards, and writing supplies to keep them engaged while we returned back to school. Not knowing, we would not be returning this school year.
This is our first school experience, and I want to end it on a positive and hopeful note during these challenging times.
A month later, and my parents are asking if they can get additional supplies for their children. Unfortunately, we are unable to go back to the school site and remove things from our classroom. For this reason, I am asking for white boards, Play-Doh, crayons, water colors, drawstring backpacks, a big kindergarten book and an addition read aloud for my students. Each item here is multi-use: watercolor for art and literature reflections, Play-Doh for fine motor activities, white boards for language arts, and math representations, the big kindergarten book to create an additional homework package, the read aloud will be uses for our Zoom story time and the drawstring bags will hold it all together.
