This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am the lead teacher of a Science and Technology Magnet Program at a rural, Title 1 middle school in South Carolina. My 6th-8th grade students have gone through a rigorous application process to become a part of our Magnet Program. These students have shown that they are academically gifted, creative, and inquisitive with interests in many fields. They are constantly coming up with new ideas to investigate in our classes. As part of our program, students are given a chance to explore course work that many will not see again until college.
Our students are the ones who embrace challenges and take the initiative to experience more than the average student.
As part of our program, the students get a chance to explore the world of Science and Technology in order to develop their interests, which allows them to discover potential careers. They get to expand their knowledge far beyond the regular science curriculum the students experience in their core science classes. These students have shown that they are our future leaders and innovators.
My Project
The ability of our children to be able to develop their creativity and use it to innovate is an important skill we all need to nurture. All of us want our students to be able to express their creativity, whether it is through traditional means or through modern apps and programs on their devices. In order to take the students' designs from the screen to the real world, building materials become needed to make their dreams a reality.
There is nothing better than when students see their creations come to life!
They want to be able to hold their designs and show them to their families and their friends. These materials will help my students accomplish that in two different courses. The tiles and adhesives will allow the students to implement their mathematical designs, using their new found knowledge of Roman Art, to build real Mosaics in the Anthropology Class. The 3D Filaments will not only be used by students to build their unique Computer Designs in their CAD classes, but in the right color!
