I work with amazing kids every day and it's a beautiful setting. I am a special education teacher who has the pleasure of working with a group of 22 amazing 6th, 7th and 8th graders who need a lot of real life, hands-on, experiences. As the resource teacher, I pull students out of the classroom to help them become successful in school and in the community. The students that I come in contact with daily are a wonderful and dynamic bunch, eager to be successful.
Keeping my students engaged and making them thirst for the knowledge that education has to offer is what I'm striving to obtain.
Making learning interesting and meaningful is very important to the group of children that I work with every day. We are a 95% poverty school with a diverse population. Although my school has limited resources, my students have an unlimited desire to learn.
Making the connection with what we learn in the classroom and how it relates to real-world situations are very important to my students. My students will engage in a community based instructional environment which includes purchasing items on a menu, choosing items that are within their budget, understanding paying a bill and appropriate restaurant etiquette.
Going to a fast food restaurant was a very rewarding and learning experience, I can only imagine how rewarding a sit-down restaurant in downtown Chicago will be.
A trip to the Rainforest Cafe will not only provide educational value but also a lifetime experience that many of my students rarely have the opportunity to participate in.
