Ms. Perry from Toledo OH is requesting educational kits & games through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need games involving money to practice their functional math and social skills in a fun, yet practical way. Many of my students need to practice counting coins and having these games will be helpful!

My students are 9th through 12th graders and are hard workers. Our school specializes in the education of children with learning disorders such as Autism and ADHD, with over 70% of our students on an IEP. Most of our students also come from low-income households who receive both breakfast and lunch at school each day. While much of our focus during the day is on the core academic areas, we also strive to develop social, emotional, coping and life skills in our students. Our low student to teacher ratio allows students to build lasting, positive relationships with adults throughout the school as well as allowing teachers to get to know what works best for our students as individuals.
We've worked hard this year to develop a classroom family type of atmosphere in our room.
We've all dealt with difficulties this year that has helped us look on the bright side of various situations and make the best with what we have. Recently, we moved into a much bigger school building and that change has been hard for some of our students to adjust to. Keeping our classroom procedures consistent and familiar will help my students make this transition much easier.
In a world of e-commerce, credit and gift cards, somehow we forget about cash. Many of my students struggle to accurately count coins and will benefit from frequent practice with physical manipulatives. Some students get discouraged as they struggle with this skill.
These games will add an element of fun and competition into our daily practice of counting money and the development of financial literacy skills.
The Game of Life will help show my students different real-life money situations that many of them don't consider when financially planning for the future. The other money counting games will allow students various opportunities to practice counting money in a more enjoyable way. The Lakeshore Allowance Game will help students see how some choices in life have financial consequences and rewards.
