My students are 5th graders from low-income immigrant families. They are English Language Learners. All of our students qualify for the free meal program. We are a Title I school, as well as a Performance Improvement School. Many of my students are struggling to learn and understand English with no help from their parents. We have a lot of latch key kids that go home every day alone and sit and watch TV. Most of my students have never encountered technology aside from being in the classroom. That's why I want to continue to expose my student to more technology and expand their learning with technological skills that they can use throughout their academic career.
My Project
I am requesting a MacBook to calculate their weekly class earnings and develop a plan on how to save and manage money. Technology provides students with the opportunity for new experiences that will stimulate and facilitate learning. With the technology, students will be able to learn financial skills necessary to save, spend wisely and make good financial decisions in the future. Students will learn about budget, balancing checkbooks, the stock market, and investing. At the end of the study, students will be able make a presentation about their findings, and make good financial decisions in the future. They will learn how to plan and budget for a trip, save to buy a house, and learn the basic day-to-day budgeting. Students will learn that if they save money and spend wisely they will have extra money to spend in other items that otherwise they would not have.
Your donation will improve my students' understanding of expenditures and learning the importance of living within needs, saving, and spending money properly.
They will acquire knowledge on how to use data, comparison, research, and publish their findings by utilizing the laptop. The donations will not only provide my students with an interactive and intriguing learning experience, but will also greatly assist them in meeting the Common Core's goal of being career ready and college bound.
