My students need money manipulatives and books to increase their application of monetary skills through board games, folder games, money rods, books, and activity cards with word problems.
My students are a fantastic bunch of kids who have so much potential. More than 3/4 of the students are from low-income households and have diverse social and emotional backgrounds. As we become a family in my classroom, my students need to have supplies that will grow their knowledge so they can be successful learners.
"Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world."-Nelson Mandela My students have tons of potential and great ideas.
They are so excited to have new supplies that promote their creativity and help them express their knowledge. My students need more access to educational materials that will prepare them for their futures.
My Project
My students are very savvy with many things, but money is a challenging concept. With so many digital options, they rarely get the practice they need with dollars and cents. There is not enough time in the year to devote to teaching money until students reach mastery, but if these classroom supplies were available to them during center time, I know my students would be choosing these activities and learning valuable money skills while having fun!
Money skills could be practiced all year long with these books and activities!
My students love to read every day. Quality literature that teaches financial literacy would be an excellent addition to our classroom library.
