This will be my first year working as a JOB COACH for a group of 9th-12th grader students with special needs. These students will be coming back on a hybrid schedule within a month or so and I am so excited to get to know the kids and get them ready for the workplace! Because of the COVID situation, the students wont be able to leave campus to work in the community as they normally would.
I know that with their hard work and creativity, they will be able to get a school-based enterprise going that will get them some of the work experience.
When the students get the chance to be involved in the school and community, it gives them such a boost in their confidence and their self esteem.
My Project
Once the students get back, they will work on ideas for their String Art business. They will be able to do a lot of the work while remaining socially distanced which will be important for all of us. The students will be able to search for patterns to trace and then use hand eye coordination to nail small nails into the panels and boards.
Being able to adjust this business to any level for the whole special needs department will be so rewarding seeing all of the kids artwork.
Once the students have gotten practice with the string art, they will be able to work on the business part of the project. They will have to work on their communication skills by presenting their work to faculty and staff in an With a jump start on the materials, this school based enterprise is sure to be a hit!!
