My students are from a small community in Jackson County, Ky. where over 30% of our families are considered below the poverty level. These students range from ages fourteen to eighteen and are considering a career in the military. When students join the (JROTC) Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps, they are then referred to as cadets. Cadets start out as being called "fuzzies," which means at the time they have no rank. They are able to advance through the ranks as in any military profession by showing hard work and dedication to the program.
My Project
The JROTC military ball is an annual formal function that is planned, decorated, and attended by the cadets enrolled in JROTC. The ball consists of a "cocktail hour" meet and greet, formal dinner, and dancing afterward.
The "meet and greet" is a very important part of the military ball experience.
As cadets enter into the meet and greet each cadet along with their guest will be escorted into a room where they will get a formal photograph taken against a backdrop. After this, they go into another room in which refreshments will be served on elegantly decorated tables with fountains of punch and gold serving trays full of snacks. After an hour, the bell will be rung for cadets to get into formation and begin walking their dates down the red carpet to be introduced to the head table.
In order to properly execute this meet and greet appropriately, my program needs the backdrop, roses, decorations, fountains, trays, and candy. Cadets will later be given a CD with their formal picture along with pictures taken of the event.
The JROTC program has the purpose of "motivating young people to become better citizens." The JROTC military ball offers benefits in the fact that it is a “different” approach to learning, which cultivates citizenship, leadership, and numerous other important qualities. Every donation to our program is greatly appreciated.
