With few arts amenities in our locality, my students utilize every scrap of every opportunity to expand their knowledge. They work incredibly hard and have made great use of the art materials so generously donated in previous requests. Sadly, most of these are gone, and as the students have developed their abilities, the need for supplies that go beyond the basics has increased. With budgets shrinking and the number of students increasing, please can you help these students get the materials they need? Your help for these future designers, scientists and creative thinkers is invaluable.
Paper, fluid acrylic paint, paint scrapers, polycarbonate printing plates and a portable pin press would be a dream come true to complete the art side of this STEAM unit.
My Project
My students live in rural Maine surrounded by trees, lakes and mountains. They are resource-poor, but rich in enthusiasm for learning. For many, the gifted and talented visual arts program provides an opportunity for creative spirits to fly and keeps students engaged in their education, overall. It nurtures self-direction, and offers ways to support the means of communication they love most: art.
I am seeking funding for art supplies that will enable students to learn about two techniques: printmaking, and painting with fluid acrylics to depict, and then present knowledge about microscopic organisms.
Supplies for this integrated science and art unit will allow students to pursue a STEAM project in which they will learn about the amazing physical structures and visual symmetries of algae and microscopic organisms in local ponds and streams.
