Making a List and Checking It Twice: Art Supply Drive
My students need art supplies to complete a wide variety of projects for the school year. Creating art helps in all facets of education and give students a portal for expressing emotions.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is filled with eager students ready to create, however, we do not have the resources to accommodate all of the projects we want to attempt. We have students who may have never painted before, picked up a pencil to draw, or have had the opportunity to create a sculpture. Students who are able to express themselves artistically, flourish in all academic areas. This motivates me to do my best with lesson planning so that my students are able to explore all areas of art.
My art classroom spans over nine grades -- K through 8.
Teaching all of the elements of art, principles of design, mediums, and art periods is important but requires a hefty amount of supplies for this many students. My students are deserving of the opportunity to sculpt, paint, draw, and collage, but without funding it isn't possible to accomplish all of these goals.
My Project
As a first year art teacher, I am coming into a classroom that needs supplies for the new projects I will be teaching. Our school is in a low-income area that has a low budget for purchasing these supplies. If this project were to be funded, I would have the necessary basic supplies to run my classroom. We are in dire need of drawing paper and construction paper for students to use. In addition to paper, we also need to replenish our markers, paints, watercolors, oil pastels, and paint brushes in order for our classroom to be able to achieve some of the projects for this year. These projects include creating artworks based in the elements of art and principles of design. Creating projects based in standards allow our students to grow as artists. With these supplies, I plan to have students study artists and mediums and learn how to paint, draw, and more. While there is more that we need, this would be such a blessing for our class because as it stands now, we do not even have paper for the beginning of the school year projects.
Art is a portal for students to express emotions, problem-solve, and hone their critical thinking skills.
I want to introduce my students to as many different mediums, subjects, styles, and projects as I can and your support with supplying these products would be the jump start that we need. I am looking forward to the opportunity to teach and cannot wait to see what my students create with the help of your donations!
