Help me give my students a drum circle. A drum circle is where students play and connect with each other in music and community by playing together, each student with their own drum.
Our school is a melting pot of students. We have students that come from different backgrounds both in ethnicity and economically. What I love about my students is that though they come from different backgrounds, they are united when it comes to music. Our music classroom is magic. When students enter the classroom they become a team, a family, ready to take on whatever their music teacher has for them. We have a classroom culture where creativity is encouraged, failure is always an option, and strong, confident singing is a must.
A typical class incorporates rhythm, singing, playing instruments, movement, and sometimes all of those things at once.
When this happens, every student has a part of music that speaks to them, whether it is playing their favorite instrument or singing their favorite song as a class. Every student has a place of excellence in the music classroom as a person and as a musician. There is no other word to describe what we, the students and I, do other than magic.
My students are growing to make music as musicians but most importantly music is working in them to help them grow as people.
My Project
Most of my students, especially my boys, are excited when it comes to drums. I love it when they get excited because using drums helps my students connect with rhythm and steady beat while also helping them get out extra energy. I believe that playing a drum to your heart's content is good for the soul...and it's fun!
I have a dream that we can have a drum circle where every student gets a drum.
Drums circles are a great way for students to engage in rhythm, beat, and with each other. The drum circle process values the individual, where each participant has a drum, while encouraging the aspect of community when every individual plays to create one sound with their peers.
Please make a way for us to continue growing musicians and people by providing these drums for our dream drum circle. It will help us foster a place where we can continue to learn music, grow as people, and share with each other in a drumming community...one drum at a time.
