My second grade classroom is full of wonder and discovery. As my students become increasingly independent learners, they love to share their learning with others whenever possible.
Our small pre-K through second grade school is nestled among the towering redwoods of far northern California.
Despite the semi-urban feel of our small city, we are in many regards a rural community. Located several hours from the nearest metropolitan area, my students lack access to extracurricular learning opportunities available elsewhere.
My Project
With the provided littleBits electronics kits (and littleBit teaching guide) my students will have the chance to build and explore their own interactive creations. Thanks to the easy-to-use nature of littleBits, students can create light up wands, sound activated automatic bubble blowers, motorized Lego vehicles, and so much more! The ease of use of littleBits means their only limitations are their own imaginations.
This project is important because it appeals to the interests and learning styles of my students in multiple ways.
The promise of building electronic “toys” that interact with the environment will draw my students in (all while teaching them the basics of electronics), but having to problem solve in a creative manner to make their creations come to life will give them skills they will benefit from for a lifetime. And all this thanks to your generous support!
