Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are hard working little learners. Our school is a Title 1 school. They love to read and learn new things. They love that I allow them to think for themselves. They are becoming great problem solvers.
I love to see them explore and have fun learning new educational knowledge and skills that will help them become future problem solvers of the world.
I usually create projects for them to work on that fully engage them. I know they do not have many of these opportunities at home.
A lot of our students come from economically disadvantaged parents. 90% of my students come from at risk families. The majority of my students stay within their neighborhood. The neighborhood does not have child friendly areas that allow for our children to enjoy and learn from. The majority of the areas have parks that are dangerous to be at. The neighborhood as a whole makes the school their number one place to bring their children to enjoy themselves in family friendly educational events.
Our parents are very caring, hardworking and devoted to their children's education. When our school has school wide educational family friendly events, our parking lot gets full.
My Project
My students will explore by creating and describing how they will make their own 2 and 3 dimensional shapes. They will be composing and decomposing shapes with the craft popsicle sticks. They will also be describing by writing about the shapes they are composing and decomposing by identifying how many sides, vertices and faces their shapes have. They will using the pipe cleaners to identify and hold the vertices.
They will be having so much fun learning while completing their projects.
They love to work together to get to their end projects. They love to learn from each other, so I know this project will be truly fully engaging for them.
They will be encouraged to think, draw and write about everything they do. These sharpeners will replace our old sharpener that does not work very well. Also, they will be able to sharpen their color pencils with these sharpeners. This sharpeners came highly recommended by the art teacher at our school. She has been using this type of sharpener all year.
