Since we are a small, rural school, we are blessed to be able to personally get to know our students. With that being said, our school is lucky to have such motivated students. Our students are always excited to learn new things and showcase their creativity. When presented with a challenge, our students take ownership of the project and use critical thinking skills to incorporate keys that are learned within class.
One thing that sets our students above the rest is that they are constantly going above and beyond what is required of them in any project.
Our budget doesn't always allow for teachers to provide the best products, however, this does not stop our students from searching for other free options. It is so much fun to see them succeed in so many different areas, and to see some of their accomplishments.
My Project
We would like to purchase some electronic tools called Makey Makeys, along with an invention book. These tools will allow our students to discover different types of projects that incorporate closed circuits and programming to create new ideas for inventions. Makeys Makeys are a simple way to incorporate inventions and creativity into our programming curriculum. Just one example of a simple Makey Makey invention is creating a closed circuit with bananas and a simple sound program, then outputting it to a song or musically bar.
These materials will make a huge difference to our students because it is actually allowing them to apply their learned knowledge of programming and circuits in real life and it allows them to use creativity to explore different options and other inventions.
Programming is something that kids need to be exposed to now. It is more than just learning commands and vocab. Programming incorporates critical thinking skills that can be applied across all subjects.
