Our students are small, but mighty coming from Milan, Indiana, the home of the 1954 Milan Indians memorialized in the movie, Hoosiers. Although they come from a small, rural farming community, they dream big in learning 21st-century skills about programming and computer science. Unfortunately, opportunities and funding are limited in this small, rural town. Students come from low-income households and limited equity in wifi access.
This is where our school comes into play.
It is the place where they can aspire to dream big. Our students want to learn about computer science and programming. The foundation has been laid by our administration in investing in bandwidth to ensure access to reliable wifi.
My Project
This professional development is an opportunity to bring joyful exploration into my classroom. The focus of this workshop is on learning about Makey Makeys with a focus on STEM learning. The workshop will broaden my knowledge of coding with the Scratch and making with a Makey Makey. In order for learning and coding to come alive for students, they need hands on exploration. Kids love to code and they love using Makey Makeys. Now it's time to have these two types of learning collide. I can't wait to attend and bring back the materials and lessons to my classroom.
