I provide enrichment for gifted students in a Title 1 K-6 school. I get to see my students one time a day for 30-45 minutes each. My students range from 2nd grade to 6th grade and all have been identified as gifted through this program my goal is to provide enrichment to these students. My goal is to create an engaging learning environment. Because of this, I have decided to create a Makerspace in my room. The issue is that my new school does not have basic technology that would support hands-on experience with computer science.
Through this donation, I will purchase a product that I have used in the past that engaged my students MakeyMakey.
Giving the gift of creating circuits out of items all around them would allow my students to view the world around them differently.
My Project
The Makey Makey is an electronic invention kit for all ages! The Makey Makey allows you to take everyday objects and combine them with the internet. Using the alligator clips attached to any conductive material you can control the keyboard of your computer, such as the space bar, arrow keys and left click of the mouse. Makey Makey is part of the maker movement! You can connect with people from all over the world to invent a wide array of electronic maker projects, from musical house plants, interactive classrooms, and amazing assistive technology!
This will be the first time my students would be exposed to this type of technology the possibilities are endless.
Students will create interactive projects using MakeyMakey. For example, interactive books that the students can build to help teach other students to read. Also, musical instruments can be made out of everyday objects. The project ideas are only limited by the student's imagination.
