My students need makey makey coding materials. They will learn how to code and develop 21st century skills. The 21st century skills are creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and communication.
My students are a very diverse group. They come from different backgrounds and beliefs. Some kids have access to technology and some don't have it at home. With the rise in the knowledge of technology for current jobs, all students need to know how to be tech savvy.
With Arizona being 49th in state funding, it is very difficult to give all students what they need.
In order for our students to compete in the job market, they must be exposed to and be able to solve problems. They need inquiry based problem solving skills. They must be confident, knowledgeable in the forever changing technology, and be able to solve tasks using design thinking. Our school is implementing STEM this year to meet the needs of a 21st century learner. Through STEM, students will be challenged daily to solve problems using science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The STEM activity kits will help students achieve the learning objectives and standards for engineering.
My Project
My students need makey makey coding materials. The 21st century skills are creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and communication. Many of my students don't have technology at home. They don't have computers and the only technology opportunities they have come from the school. Students need exposure and experiences using technology. Our students are going to need these tech skills to use for their employment. There are many jobs that haven't been thought of as our world keeps changing. The Makey Makey would be a great resource for my students as they code using hands-on resources that extends beyond the computers. My students are English Language Learners and they learn by doing and this is a great way for them to learn new academic vocabulary. I want them to build life long problem solving skills and the Makey Makeys will promote this goal of mine.
