My school is located in East Tennessee and serves approximately 550 students from pre-kindergarten to fifth grade. We are a Title I school, with over 60% of our families qualifying for free or reduced lunches.
My students are inquisitive, creative, and eager to learn.
They love to build, explore, and invent using hands-on experiences. They are fun-loving and inquisitive, always willing to try new things.
I see each student in the school once to twice a week in the library for forty-five minutes each time. When we are not reading, we are creating and building our real-world knowledge through the use of our makerspaces and projects.
My Project
These materials will help students to continue to create in our makerpaces. The perler beads have been a huge hit for all ages. The washi tape is mainly used to make personalized bookmarks, and the accessories for Dash will allow two groups of students to compete with each other (we have one set already).
Makerspaces are essential to libraries because they allow students to express their creativity and explore their own interests.
We have a variety of activities available, but materials need to be replenished frequently to allow ALL students the opportunity to participate in and create their individual and unique visions. Our special needs students love the makerspaces because they allow the students to create and participate with their peers.
