My Students

My school is located in North Carolina about 10 minutes from a major military base, which means most of our students have at least one family member serving.
We are a Title I school, with 100% of our students who receive free breakfast and lunch. Our STEAM Room and Makerspace area are just starting out and we are trying to make sure we stay up to date with new thinking and methodology by focusing on the whole child. We also make an effort to incorporate multiple exposures to engineering, art, and technology, and make it relevant to their world and interests.
My Project
The philosophy behind Makerspace Education is that children can create and build anything given the material, time, and space. The makerspace is an area where students can invent using a variety of new or reusable materials. Makerspace activities provide students the opportunity to collaborate and develop 21stCentury and STEM skills. Students will be allowed to have creative freedom as well as use the materials to solve real world problems. My students have loved having access to our makerspace but supplies are running out and I need to refill the consumables. Students love the freedom to use their imagination to take feathers and create new animals. The beads will help reinforce the water cycle while the foam balls will become planets for the solar system.
Students will be able to discover talents and interests in themselves that they did not know they had.
I am hoping that students will find my classroom a place to take challenges to learn and grow.
