I teach some amazing students. They are diverse and creative. I teach advanced and talented students in a high poverty school with the majority of students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Many of our students are also English Language Learners.
My students like to challenge themselves continually.
They think differently and often generate complex, abstract ideas. My students love to read and solve problems. Our class loves to ponder multiple perspectives and research new information through various forms of media.
I am overjoyed that I get to experience Pathfinders this summer! I had an amazing time learning all about robotics this winter. I cannot wait to see what the Summer Institute has in store for me! I am going to continue my journey through the exciting world of Makerspace and Maker Education at the Pathfinders Summer Institute in Indiana! A makerspace is a place where young people have an opportunity to explore their own interests; learn to use tools and materials, both physical and virtual; and develop creative projects. They’re cross-disciplinary, with elements of art, science, and craftsmanship. They offer tools and materials that encourage students to create rather than consume.
This boot camp will hopefully allow me to develop the skills to be able to integrate maker education principles and philosophies into my core curriculum.
The sessions at this institute will provide me with skills and model lessons using hands-on engineering and design challenges, digital manufacturing, and a variety of other inexpensive low-tech and high-tech materials and equipment.
