My students need a K'Nex set, a Keva building set, and Stacker Pegs that will allow them to show their creativity and imagination using a variety of makerspace materials.
After 20 years of teaching in the classroom, I am starting a new adventure as the school librarian. I am so excited to start this new chapter in my career because I will get to work with all grade levels in my school.
My school and students are very special.
The teachers work hard to build relationships with the students and it is evident because the students are happy and eager to learn.
To be honest, I feel blessed each day when I get to go and work with my students. You cannot saying teaching is boring. We have a set daily routine but each day is different because we are dealing children. They make it so much fun to go to work each day. I recently had a parent write and tell me how thankful she was that her son had me as a teacher and that my love for my students was evident whenever I looked at them. I look forward to building relationships with all the student in the school.
My Project
A makerspace is a way for the students to create, invent, explore and discover using a variety of tools and materials. I want the library to be a learning center where they can develop not only a love for reading, but also a love for learning. I feel a makerspace will help me achieve the goal.
The supplies I requested would be used in the makerspace section of the library for the students to be creative and imaginative.
The students would be able to use the Keva planks to build bridges, K'Nex to build robot, dominoes for fractions, and stacker pegs to create towers and buildings after reading STEM challenge cards.
I believe it will help my students in many ways. Not only will it help them become better readers as they read the task, but it will help them become critical thinkers as they try to problem solve. The students will be actively involved in learning instead of just passively listening. My goal is for them to be more imaginative and eager to discover what is around them. I also hope it will help them solve real world problems.
