Makerspace + Compassion = Students with Strong Character!
My students need yarn, paint, pebbles and other Makerspace materials and tools to restock our maker design area including yarn to complete a community service project that we have already started.
The students that I serve are children of military families who work hard towards achieving success in education no matter their background or previous school experience. At our school, we nurture design thinking in our students by providing Makerspace learning opportunities. We've been busy "making" and we need more supplies to fund our current and future projects such as our garden beds for our green school efforts, picture frames and mats for our photography art projects, and more yarn for our scarves for seniors campaign. The scarves are a Makerspace plus compassion initiative that is student-driven, and a tangible way to demonstrate our school-wide belief that "character counts all the time." Because it is our first time looming, I underestimated the amount of yarn needed to finish the task, therefore, we need more yarn and funds for transportation to deliver the scarves to seniors at a local senior living center.
Students at our school are hardworking high achievers who are motivated to strive for excellence.

My Project
These items will allow our students to experience hands-on learning that connects school with real life. For example, we will use the drill, heavy duty stapler, and landscape lining to construct garden beds to teach middle school students how to grow food, and the economics of how to bring it to market. Students will use the yarn to complete the looming of scarves for seniors in our community outreach efforts.
These Makerspace materials will allow students to use their design and creative thinking skills to produce items that impact real life situations while also developing their academics and character all at the same time.
