I work in a Title I school in Kansas where 75% of our culturally diverse students receive free/reduced lunches. Though many of them face challenges, the kids are loving and naturally inquisitive. To help encourage student creativity I would like to add a 3-D printer to the makerspace in our school.
Adding a 3-D printer to our makerspace will encourage student creativity by letting students gather and share ideas while exploring their own interests.
I would love to provide them with the opportunity for hands-on technology experiences that they otherwise wouldn't have.
My Project
My students are full of creativity and need positive ways to express it. With your help, we can add a 3-D printer to our school for students in multiple grades to use.
The addition of a 3-D printer in our makerspace would let students express their creativity while also learning design, mathematical, and scientific concepts.
Students will be able to explore things they are interested in and then design something related to it to print. They could print an invention or a design such as a picture frame, game, toy boat or even a bug! Students can also get hands-on experience with multiple math concepts by building objects. Working on communication skills is also a way a 3-D printer would positively impact students as they would have to explain their designs and inventions.
By adding this 3-D printer to our school, our students will have the opportunity to work with a piece of equipment they would not otherwise have the chance to use. I know students benefit from being able to express themselves, and I would like to provide them with resources to do that.
