This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"Let us put our minds together and see what life we can make for our children." - Sitting Bull
My school is located in North Carolina about 10 minutes from a major military base, which means most of our students have at least one family member serving.
We are a Title I school, with 100% of our students who receive free breakfast and lunch. With my second graders, I love the energy and excitement the kids show about school and I always try to find ways to keep their energy up.
My Project
The Makerspace is an area where students can invent using a variety of new or reusable materials. Makerspace activities provide students the opportunity to collaborate and develop 21st Century and STEM skills. Students will be allowed to have creative freedom as well as use the materials to solve real-world problems. The resource tools in this project will provide help when using cardboard to build different construction projects. The electronic battery packs, lights, and batteries will help our innovators learn about energy. Students will be able to collaboratively build and work on a variety of projects that will use these items.
By providing students with the tools in this project, and the opportunity to use them, in a safe creative environment, students will be able to discover talents and interests in themselves that they did not know they had.
