"Necessity, the mother of invention." Even Plato wouldn't deny that our needs in the modern age are ever-changing. Students will meet their needs in the future in ways we cannot imagine. 3D printing will bring lessons to life today that will yield the innovations needed for a prosperous tomorrow.
My students are a diverse population of learners, from ages 8-10, in 4th grade.
They are funny, energetic, and smart with boundless creativity and enthusiasm for learning. Our school is a great community for students in kindergarten through 8th grade. We celebrate citizenship, leadership, and excellence in education.
My Project
Remember the old song, "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands"? The Makerbot 3D printing bundle would literally bring that song to life for my students. Imagine this: students holding a model of the Earth that they created and printed to use to explain ideas, reinforce concepts, develop solutions to real-world problems, and create and test hypotheses. It is easy to envision the connection of this printing capability to subjects like science, technology, and math, but that is just the tip of the iceberg.
With evolving standards for learning in a constantly changing environment, a few things are for sure: students must be able to work collaboratively, apply concepts to real-world scenarios, communicate well, and persevere in their thinking. The Makerbot 3D printing bundle promotes all of these. Students will be able to design their own models for math, print life into characters they create, and work together to invent objects of art, utility, and more.
The Makerbot 3D printing bundle may turn the old adage, "Form follows function" on its head, and it is no surprise that the children of today may be turning into a new dimension of learning.
The function of this printing capability in my classroom will form project-based learning, concrete models, and a foundation for innovation and creativity that will ignite the passion for learning that we all need in our leaders of tomorrow. Thank you for considering supporting this amazing project.
